Qantas is the flag carrier of Australia and the country's largest airline. It was founded on 16 November 1920 in Winton, Queensland, and its name comes from the initials of Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services. It is headquartered in Sydney, with its main base at Sydney Airport, and flies domestic and international routes. Under the Qantas Sale Act 1992 the majority of its shares must be held by Australian investors. Its kangaroo tail logo earned it the nickname the Flying Kangaroo.
