AirAsia is a Malaysian low-cost airline founded in 1993 and relaunched in 2001, headquartered near Kuala Lumpur. It grew into the largest budget carrier in Asia, with associate airlines in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and India and a network across the region. Its model of low fares and high aircraft use reshaped air travel in South East Asia much as Ryanair did in Europe.
