Albert Heijn is the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, with a market share of around 38 percent. It was founded in 1887 when Albert Heijn took over his father's grocery in Oostzaan, and it grew into the core of the Ahold group, now Ahold Delhaize. It runs full-size supermarkets, to-go shops and an online service, and Dutch shoppers know it simply as AH or Appie.
