Livraria Bertrand is a Portuguese bookshop chain with 59 branches across the country, two of them on Madeira. It was founded in 1732, and its original shop in the Chiado district of Lisbon was recognised by Guinness World Records in 2011 as the oldest bookshop still trading anywhere in the world. The Chiado store has been a haunt of Portuguese writers, among them Alexandre Herculano, Fernando Pessoa, Eça de Queirós and Antero de Quental.
