Hy-Vee is an American supermarket chain based in West Des Moines, Iowa, that began in Beaconsfield, Iowa, in 1930. The name is a contraction of the surnames of its two founders, Charles Hyde and David Vredenburg. The company is employee owned and serves the midwestern and southern United States, with stores and a distribution centre planned for Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky and Alabama. Its supermarkets combine groceries with pharmacies, in store restaurants and other services.
