Makro is a Dutch brand of cash and carry wholesale stores, aimed at businesses such as shops, restaurants and caterers that buy in bulk on a membership basis. It was founded by SHV Holdings, a conglomerate based in Utrecht, together with the German company Metro AG, and the first warehouse opened in Amsterdam in 1968. The name is now used by different owners in different parts of the world, among them Metro AG in Europe, SHV in South America, Massmart in South Africa and CP Axtra in Asia.
