It sells food free from hydrogenated fats and artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, and it is a certified organic grocer in the United States, best known for its organic range. John Mackey, the last of the founders still with the business, sold the company to Amazon for 13.7 billion dollars in August 2017. The chain has more than 500 stores in North America and six in the United Kingdom.
