The Bata Corporation, written Baťa in Czech and Slovak, is a footwear, clothing and accessories maker and retailer of Moravian origin, founded in 1894 in what was then Austria-Hungary. It is headquartered in Lausanne in Switzerland and has stayed in family hands for more than 125 years. The group is divided into Bata, Bata Industrials for safety shoes and AW Lab for sports styles, and carries brands such as North Star, Power and Bubblegummers. In 2004 Guinness World Records named it the largest shoe seller and manufacturer of all time.
