Apoteket AB is a state-owned pharmacy company in Sweden, which held the national monopoly on retail medicine sales until 2009. Formerly known as Apoteksbolaget, it still runs a large network of pharmacies across the country and reports to the Swedish government. Since deregulation it has competed with private chains, while keeping services in places where a commercial pharmacy would not survive.
