Nike, Inc. is an American company that designs and sells athletic footwear, clothing and equipment. It was founded on 25 January 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, and took the Nike name in 1971, after the Greek goddess of victory. Its headquarters is a large campus near Beaverton, Oregon, and the swoosh has served as its logo since the same period. Philip Knight is chairman emeritus, Mark Parker executive chairman and Elliott Hill president and chief executive.
