Bauhaus AG is a German retail chain of home improvement, garden and workshop stores, present across much of Europe. Its name combines the German words bauen, to build, and Haus, house, and nods both to the modernist Bauhaus school and to the surname of its founder and owner Heinz-Georg Baus. The chain has 280 franchised stores, more than 150 of them in Germany, and it also trades in nineteen other European countries, among them Austria, Denmark, Spain, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
