Odeon is a British cinema chain founded by Oscar Deutsch, who opened the first cinema under the name in 1930. The chain grew quickly in the 1930s with purpose built art deco cinemas, a number of which are now listed buildings. Odeon operates multiplexes and older single site cinemas across the United Kingdom and Ireland, with the Odeon Leicester Square in London as its best known venue. Since 2016 it has been owned by the American company AMC Theatres, as part of Odeon Cinemas Group.
