Marriott is an American hotel brand owned by Marriott International, one of the largest hotel companies in the world. The business began in 1927, when J. Willard Marriott and his wife Alice opened a root beer stand in Washington, D.C., and it moved into hotels in 1957. Marriott International is run from Bethesda, Maryland, and operates or franchises hotels under some thirty brands, among them JW Marriott, Sheraton, Westin, Courtyard and Ritz-Carlton. Guests collect points through Marriott Bonvoy.
