SuperValu is an Irish supermarket chain founded on 27 June 1968 in Douglas, County Cork. It is run by the Musgrave Group as a franchise, so most of its shops are owned by independent local retailers who buy from Musgrave and trade under the SuperValu name. The chain serves the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and employs about 14,500 people. Stores range from small town supermarkets to large stores with butcher, bakery and off licence counters.
