Vapiano SE is a European restaurant chain with its head office in Cologne. It was set up in Hamburg in 2002 and serves Italian food on the fast casual principle, with pasta and pizza cooked to order in an open kitchen in front of the guest. About a third of the restaurants are run by the company itself and the rest by franchisees or as joint ventures. By April 2017 there were 180 sites in 31 countries. In March 2020 the company declared itself insolvent after sales collapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
