Delhaize is a Belgian supermarket brand that grew out of Delhaize Group, a retail company headquartered in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean in Brussels. The group ran supermarkets, hypermarkets and convenience stores, with 3,534 outlets in Europe, North America and Asia in 2013. In June 2015 it agreed to merge with the Dutch retailer Ahold, and the combined parent company Ahold Delhaize is based in the Netherlands. The name comes from the Delhaize family, which started the grocery business in Belgium in 1867.
