FC Groningen is a Dutch football club from Groningen in the north of the country, founded on 16 June 1971 as the successor to GVAV. It plays at the Euroborg, a ground of 22,550 places, and competes in the Eredivisie. The club won the KNVB Cup in 2015, its only major trophy, and has been a regular in European competition. It plays in green and white and is nicknamed De Trots van het Noorden, the pride of the north. Its academy produced Arjen Robben, Virgil van Dijk and Luis Suárez, who all began in Groningen.
