Food Lion is an American supermarket chain founded on 12 December 1957 in Salisbury, North Carolina, by Wilson Smith and the brothers Ralph and Brown Ketner. It opened as Food Town and took the Food Lion name in 1983. The chain runs more than a thousand stores in the southeastern and mid-Atlantic United States, selling groceries, produce, meat, seafood, dairy, bakery and deli goods, with a pharmacy in part of the stores. It is a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize.
