Furet du Nord is a chain of bookshops in the Nord department of France. Its origins go back to 1936, when a fur shop on Rue de la Vieille-Comédie in Lille was turned into a bookshop and kept its old name, a reference to the local tradition of hunting rabbits with ferrets. The flagship store on the Grand Place in Lille opened in 1959 and was the largest bookshop in the world from 1992 to 1999. It is still one of the largest bookshops in France.
