KRC Genk is a Belgian football club from Genk in Limburg, formed in 1988 out of a merger of Thor Waterschei and Winterslag, both clubs of the local coal mines. It plays at the Cegeka Arena, a ground of 23,718 places, and competes in the Belgian Pro League. Genk has won four Belgian championships and five cups. It plays in blue and white and is nicknamed De Smurfen, the Smurfs. Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois came through its academy.
