Deutsche Lufthansa AG, trading as the Lufthansa Group, is a German aviation company whose principal airline, Lufthansa German Airlines, is the flag carrier of Germany. It was founded in 1926 as Deutsche Luft Hansa and set up again in its present form after the Second World War. Measured by passengers carried it is the second largest airline group in Europe. The group also owns Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, ITA Airways and Swiss International Air Lines, and it was a founding member of Star Alliance in 1997.
