Opel Automobile GmbH, usually shortened to Opel, is a German car manufacturer founded on 21 January 1862 by Adam Opel, who started with sewing machines and bicycles before the company turned to cars. The American group General Motors owned Opel from 1929 to 2017 and the PSA Group from 2017 to 2021, and since January 2021 it has been part of Stellantis. Most of the range is sold in the United Kingdom under the Vauxhall name, and Opel models have also been badged as Holden, Buick, Saturn and Chevrolet elsewhere.
