Pizza Hut is an American pizza restaurant chain and international franchise, founded in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas, by the brothers Dan and Frank Carney. It is headquartered in Plano, Texas, and operated 19,974 restaurants worldwide as of 2025. Franchising began in 1959 and the distinctive building style used by many outlets was designed by the Chicago architect George Lindstrom in 1963. PepsiCo bought the company in 1977 and later spun it off into Tricon Global Restaurants, renamed Yum! Brands in 2002, its present owner.
