Rewe, stylised as REWE, is a German supermarket chain and the main brand of the REWE Group, which is headquartered in Cologne. The name is a contraction of Revisionsverband der Westkauf-Genossenschaften, the audit union of cooperatives the business grew out of. With about 3,300 stores it is the second largest food retailer in Germany, behind Edeka. Rewe started home delivery with a trial in Frankfurt in 2011 and was an early mover in German online grocery. Its own labels include ja!, Beste Wahl and REWE Bio.
