Shangri-La is a hotel group founded in 1971, with its first hotel in Singapore and its head office in Hong Kong. It runs luxury hotels and resorts across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and Oceania, among them the Edsa Shangri-La in Manila. The group is controlled by the family of the Malaysian businessman Robert Kuok and is listed as Shangri-La Asia. Its name comes from the fictional valley in the James Hilton novel Lost Horizon.
