Toyota is a Japanese car manufacturer with its head office in Toyota City, in Aichi prefecture. It grew out of the loom maker Toyoda Automatic Loom Works and became a separate company in 1937 under Kiichiro Toyoda. Measured by the number of vehicles built it is the largest carmaker in the world, with a range that runs from small hatchbacks to pickup trucks and includes the Prius, the first mass produced petrol electric hybrid. The group also owns Lexus, Daihatsu and Hino.
