WestJet is a Canadian airline with its head office in Calgary, Alberta. It was founded in 1994 and began flying in 1996 with 220 employees, three aircraft and five destinations, set up as a low cost alternative to the established carriers. It is now the second largest airline in Canada, carrying more than 25 million passengers a year to over 100 destinations in North America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Central America. Calgary International Airport is its connecting hub, with Toronto Pearson as a secondary base.
