JCPenney is an American department store chain, legally Penney OpCo LLC and often shortened to JCP or Penney's. It was founded on 14 April 1902 by James Cash Penney, whose first store opened in Kemmerer, Wyoming. The chain sells clothing, footwear, jewellery, beauty products and goods for the home, largely from anchor stores in shopping malls. Since 2025 it has been owned by Catalyst Brands, a joint venture of Authentic Brands Group, Brookfield Corporation, Shein and Simon Property Group.
