La Rinascente is an Italian chain of upmarket department stores, founded in Milan in 1865 and still based there. Its shops sell clothing, cosmetics, food, household goods and furniture, and the Milan flagship stands on the cathedral square. The name, which suggests a rebirth, was given to the business by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio. Since 2011 the chain has belonged to the Thai retail group Central, with Pierluigi Cocchini as chief executive.
