Fred Meyer, Inc. is an American chain of hypermarket superstores based in Portland, Oregon, where Fred G. Meyer founded it in 1922. It was one of the first chains in the country to promote one stop shopping, combining a full grocery supermarket with a drugstore, bank, clothing, jewellery, home decor, home improvement, garden, electronics, restaurant, shoes, sporting goods and toys. Its stores are in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska. Kroger bought the company in 1998 and kept the name.
