Slovenská pošta is the state owned postal operator of Slovakia, set up on 1 January 1993 when the country became independent and turned into a public limited company owned by the state in 2004. It runs over 1,500 post offices across the country and is the third largest employer in Slovakia. Its duties include the universal postal service, express and courier delivery, temporary post offices, the issue of postage stamps and a postal museum. Its head office is in Banská Bystrica.
