Walgreens is an American pharmacy chain with its head office in Deerfield, Illinois. It was founded in Chicago in 1901 and traded as Walgreen Drug Co., Walgreen Drug Stores and Walgreen's before settling on its present name in 1955. It is the second largest pharmacy chain in the United States after CVS, with 8,000 stores, 211,000 staff and 9 million customers a day. Besides dispensing prescriptions the shops sell health and beauty goods and offer photo services.
