dm-drogerie markt, usually shortened to dm, is a German drugstore chain headquartered in Karlsruhe, where it opened its first shop in 1973. The stores sell cosmetics, healthcare items, household products and health food and drinks. Founded by Götz Werner, dm is the largest retailer in its sector in Germany measured by revenue and has more than 79,700 staff in over 4,000 stores in twelve European countries. It expanded into central and eastern Europe from the 1990s onwards.
