GameStop Corp. is an American retailer of video games, consumer electronics and gaming merchandise, headquartered in Grapevine, Texas, near Dallas. It was founded in Dallas in 1984 as Babbage's and took its present name in 1999, after passing through owners including Barnes & Noble. It is the largest video game retailer in the world and has run 2,206 stores, 1,598 of them in the United States, 300 in Australia and 308 in Europe. Other banners include EB Games, Micromania-Zing and Zing Pop Culture.
