Turkish Airlines is the flag carrier of Turkey, founded in 1933 and based in Istanbul. From its hub there it flies to 53 destinations inside Turkey and 303 abroad in 132 countries, which gives it one of the widest networks of any airline. Europe accounts for the largest share of its foreign destinations, followed by Asia and Africa, and outside Turkey it flies to the largest number of airports in Russia, the United States and Germany. It is a member of the Star Alliance and also runs a freight arm, Turkish Airlines Cargo.
