BYD is a Chinese carmaker and battery manufacturer based in Shenzhen, founded in 1995 and building cars since 2003. It makes battery electric and plug-in hybrid passenger cars as well as electric buses and lorries, and has expanded into Europe, Australia and South America. Its compact electric crossover, the Atto 3, sold as the Yuan Plus in China, was the first BYD passenger car offered in many overseas markets. The initials stand for Build Your Dreams.
