The Dorotheum is an auction house in Vienna, established by Emperor Joseph I in 1707, which makes it one of the oldest in the world and the largest art auction house in continental Europe. It has its headquarters in a neo-classical building on the Dorotheergasse and sells works of art, antiques, furniture and jewellery from various centuries. Alongside the auctions, ordinary retail sales form a large part of the business. There are branches elsewhere in Austria and in Prague, Milan, Rome, Düsseldorf, Munich and Brussels.
