English Heritage, officially the English Heritage Trust, is a charity that looks after more than 400 historic monuments, buildings and places in England. Its sites range from prehistoric monuments and Roman forts to medieval castles, a battlefield, industrial sites, listed ruins, country houses and historic designed landscapes. The organisation grew out of the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, the government body formed in 1983 that also used the name English Heritage.
