Hertz is an American car rental company, part of Hertz Global Holdings, which is based in Estero, Florida, and was founded in Chicago, Illinois. Alongside the Hertz name the group runs Dollar Rent A Car, Thrifty Car Rental and Firefly Car Rental. It is one of the three big rental car groups in the United States with a 36 percent market share, ahead of Avis Budget Group and behind Enterprise Holdings. Hertz rents vehicles in 160 countries, and it filed for bankruptcy in May 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic cut its bookings.
