Bilka is a Danish chain of hypermarkets. The first store opened in 1970 in Tilst, a suburb of Aarhus, and the chain was founded by Herman Salling. Bilka stores are large outlets on the edge of town, selling groceries alongside clothing, electronics, toys and household goods under one roof. The chain is part of the Salling Group, the largest retailer in Denmark, which also owns the Føtex and Netto chains.
