About Elkjøp

Elkjøp is a Norwegian consumer electronics retailer, founded by Trygve Fjetland on 16 March 1962 and trading as Elgiganten outside Norway. Its stores sell consumer electronics, white goods and brown goods, and the group is the largest electronics retailer in the Nordic countries, with four hundred shops in six countries and 24,000 employees. It was bought by the British company Currys in November 1999. The coined name translates from Norwegian roughly as electrical purchase.
