Føtex is a Danish chain of supermarkets that opened in 1960 as the first supermarket in Denmark. It was founded by Herman Salling in Aarhus and gave rise to the business now known as the Salling Group, formerly Dansk Supermarked. Its stores combine a full grocery range with clothing and household goods. The name is a contraction of the Danish words fødevarer, meaning daily groceries, and textil, meaning textiles.
