Jersey Mike's Subs is an American chain of sandwich shops built around submarine rolls. The first shop opened in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, as Mike's Giant Submarine Shop, and traded as Mike's Submarines from 1960 onwards. Peter Cancro bought the business in 1975, while still a teenager, and renamed it Jersey Mike's. From that single store he built a franchise chain with outlets across the United States.
