It was founded in 2014, adopted its present name in 2016 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2018. The company sells electric saloons and SUVs and has moved into related fields such as chip development, smartphones and power products. Its cars use exchangeable batteries, and it runs close to 4,000 battery swapping stations worldwide, most of them in China. In 2024 it added the Onvo and Firefly brands for the mass market.
