Penny, known internationally as Penny Market and in Bavaria and Austria as Penny Markt, is a German discount supermarket chain that operates around 3,550 stores. It was founded by the Leibbrand Gruppe in 1973 and has been fully owned by the Rewe Group since 1989. The chain trades in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Italy, the Czech Republic, Romania and Bulgaria. It entered Italy in part by taking over seven stores in Liguria from Tuodì in 2017 and has several hundred outlets there.
