Perth Zoo is a zoological park in South Perth, Western Australia. It first opened in 1898 and by 2011 housed 1,258 animals of 164 species, alongside an extensive botanical collection on its grounds. The zoo is a full institutional member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association and of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is run by the government of Western Australia rather than by a private operator.
