Techniker Krankenkasse, branded as Die Techniker since 2016, is the largest health insurance organisation in Germany. It was founded in 1884 and provides the general cover required by law, as opposed to the cover sold by private health insurers. Legally it is not a company but a Körperschaft des öffentlichen Rechts, a public law body whose organisation is set out in the federal social code. It has around 15,700 employees and reported revenue of some 69.2 billion euro.
