Walmart Inc. is an American retail corporation running hypermarkets, known there as supercenters, along with discount department stores, grocery shops, pharmacies and filling stations in the United States and 19 other countries. It was founded in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas, by the brothers Sam and James Walton, and its head office is in Bentonville in the same state. The Walton family still holds about 45 per cent of the shares. The company also owns and runs the Sam's Club warehouse stores.
